A brief History:                                                                                    Kadavinakatta dam

Bhatkal is the Town which covers many ancient monuments like Basti, Sultan Palli, Chinnnada Palli, Chandranath Basadi and a beautiful sight of Kadavinakatta dam built across the Venkatapur River. since it is an coastal town, we can also enjoy  the sea-sight along with the Light House.

Murdeshwar:

About 16 Kms. from Bhatkal, we come across  the  holy place called Murdeshwar, famous for gorgeous temple  and the beautiful sea shore. the temple, which embodies a Linga, is believed to have erupted when Ravana flung  the Atmalinga at Gokarna while lifting it. As one ascends the hillock, there is a shrine of Jattiga seated on a horse.

Gokarna:

About 95 Kms (appr. ) from Bhatkal and about 55 kms. from karwar , is situtated another historical place called Gokarna. it is described as a Shaiva Centre, as important as kashi and Rameshwar. History has it that the Atmalinga brought by Ravana got struck here and his efforts to extricate it resulted in his throwing the coverings of the Linga to Dhareshwar, Gunavanteshwara, Murdeshwar and Shejjeshwar temples

Murdeshwar Temple: This picturesque place situated 16 kms from Bhatkal has a gorgeous temple perched on the hillock by the shore. The sea is an intrinsic part of the temple scape at Murudeshwar. The sea surrounds the temple towering on the small hill called Kanduka Giri on three sides. Two life-size elephants in concrete stand guard at the steps leading to the temple. The Murdeshwar temple has a history that dates back to a few centuries.

Mahabaleshwar Temple (Gokarna): The Mahabaleshwara is one of the major temple here. The deity here is two armed, standing, and atleast 1500 years old. The Bhadrakali and Venkataramana temples, kotiteertha tank etc. are the few holy places here. Gokarna is also famous for its beautiful virgin beaches and breathtaking landscapes
